Diploneis potapovae has uniseriate striae. Diploneis modica has biseriate striae, but smaller valve size and higher striae density. Diploneis modicahassiaca and Diploneis balticanova have biseriate striae that become triseriate close to the valve margin and onto the mantle. To date, Diploneis modicahassiaca is only known from Germany, Diploneis modica from Lake Ohrid (North Macedonia/Albania), and Diploneis balticanova from Stettin Lagoon in Poland.
