Diploneis elliptica and D. ovalis have uniseriate striae.
Diploneis dilatatafalsa and D. lusatica have smaller valves (on average), a narrower axial area, and short, curved proximal raphe ends. Furthermore, striae of D. dilatatafalsa are triseriate near the valve margin. The valve apices of D. lusatica are slightly cuneate.
Diploneis sanantoniensis has a narrower axial area and oval, rather than rhombo-elliptic, valve outline.
