Compare

Diploneis boldtiana is similar in outline, but has biseriate striae. Diploneis calcicolafrequens has oblong to oblong-elliptic valves and a lower stria density. Also compare to Diploneis oblongellopsis (a name that has replaced D. oblongella), which is superficially similar. Both D. fontanella and D. separanda are smaller and more narrow.
