Hippodonta capitata subsp. iberoamericana differs from H. capitata by its rhombic-lanceolate valve outline and slightly drawn-out apices. It is somewhat similar in valve outline to H. hungarica, which has broader striae. Hippodonta coxiae is similar in size and valve shape, but has more narrow uniseriate striae, which are also more parallel at the valve center.
