Cyclotella glabriuscula and L. radiosa have more distinct shadow lines along the valve margin. In C. glabriuscula the central areolae are fainter and in L. radiosa the central areolae are arranged in distinctly radial rows. Other species of Lindavia have central areolae of different sizes, central areolae that are radiate or irregularly spaced, longer marginal striae, or striae that lack shadow lines.
