The proximal raphe ends of N. erifuga are slightly deflected, while both N. libonensis and N. recens possess straight proximal raphe ends. Valves of N. lanceolata are broader than N. erifuga, have straight central raphe ends and the central area is symmetric. Valves of N. viridulacalcis are nearly linear and larger in size. Navicula escambia and N. symmetrica both have striae that are radiate throughout the valve.
