Stauroneis conspicua differs from S. phoenicenteron by having smaller valves of more elliptic shape with short protracted ends. Stauroneis conspicua may be distinguished from S. fluminopsis and S. gracilis by its more elliptical valves and from S. gracilis by its straight, rather than curved, proximal raphe ends.
