Stauroneis absaroka and S. acidoclinata have subrostrate to subcapitate apices. In addition, S. absaroka has a wide axial area and distinctly curved proximal raphe ends. Stauroneis acidoclinatopsis has larger valves and a narrow stauros that is just slightly wider near the valve margins. Valves of S. reichardtii are smaller and more linear than valves of S. amphicephala and S. ancepsfallax. Stauroneis anceps is larger and has narrow rostrate apices.
