Compare

Valves of S. gracilis are smaller and elliptic-lanceolate with subrostrate apices and higher areolae density in the striae (18-22 in 10 µm). Valves of S. heinii are wider relative to their length. Stauroneis phoenicenteron has proximal raphe ends that are straight, not curved.
