Stauroneis vandevijveri may be distinguished from S. acidoclinata by its more lanceolate, rather than linear, valves and straight proximal raphe ends. Stauroneis absaroka has a broad axial area and distinctly curved, drop-like proximal raphe ends. Stauroneis anceps has narrower, rostrate apices. Stauroneis ancepsfallax has capitate apices.
