Valves are narrow, with awide mantle and cincture. Frustules are most often observed lying in girdle view. The wide valvocopulae possess double undulating rows of linear pores. The valve apices are acute to sub-acute. This species is found exclusively on manatees and is heterotrophic (cells are apochlorotic, meaning they lack chlorophyll).
