Description: Kathleen presented published and new data from analyses using ancient sedimentary DNA to track changes in diatom communities during past millennia. Metabarcoding and metagenomic approaches from lake and marine sediment cores will be discussed. The studies on lakes will focus on the applications of diatom DNA to understand cryptic diversity and community changes along with terrestrial vegetation change in Arctic Siberia. The studies on marine systems will focus on using diatom DNA to understand past sea ice and sea surface temperatures in the Northern Pacific Ocean.

Target audience: Anyone interested in biomonitoring diatoms using DNA, cryptic diatom diversity, and those interested in paleoecology. Please note, we will respect the speaker's request to delay uploading the recording until the presented data become published.

Diatoms of North America is running a fundraising campaign to keep the servers in operation. We need you to reach our $25,000 fundraising goal.
