Diatoms.org: where do we go from here?

Description: The diatoms.org project leveraged generous funding from EPA, USGS, and the University of Colorado to develop a resource that 1) serves as the standard for taxonomic identification for water quality assessment, 2) joins the international community of diatomists through the Diatom Web Academy seminar series, 3) provides taxonomic certification through the Society for Freshwater Science, Diatom Taxonomic Certification Committee, and 4) receives over 1 million page views each year. Yet, despite these successes, the project lacks secure funding for maintenance, growth, and development. In this presentation, we are reaching out to the international community to get feedback on the future of the project. We offer funding models for consideration and want to hear your ideas on options to continue the project.

Audience: Those interested in a broad overview of the techniques and approaches to algal ecology and harmful algal bloom research. In addition, this talk will be of interest to those seeking potential collaboration with the USGS Phycology Lab.
