Identification

Description

Valves are lanceolate-clavate, with an inflated central valve. The valve tapers from the center to a rounded headpole. The valve markedly tapers from the center to a narrow footpole. The axial area is lanceolate. A single stigma is present. The raphe is lateral, except at the proximal and distal raphe ends. Proximal raphe ends curve toward the stigma. Striae are parallel to weakly radiate at the center valve. Striae are parallel at the headpole and radiate at the footpole. A distinct porefield is present at the footpole.

EMBED = percent of the stream substrate that is embedded by sand and fine sediment
log_TURBIDITY = log of turbidity, a measure of cloudiness of water, in nephelometric turbidity units (NTU).
DISTOT = an index of total human disturbance in the watershed that ranges from 1 - 100, with a value of 0 indicating of minimal disturbance to a value of 100 indicating severe disturbance.
