Surirella pinnata is most similar in size and shape to S. minuta, and the two taxa have been easily confused. Surirella minuta has shorter fibulae that do not extend into the valve center. Surirella pinnata can also be confused with S. brebissonii and S. ovalis, particulary for specimens at the low end of the size range. Surirella brebissonii and S. ovalis have rounded valve margins and a lower stria density. Surirella lacrimula differs by ovate valves. Surirella angusta has isopolar valves.
