Diatoms of North AmericaThe ISDR Council is excited to announce a grant program for Early Career Researchers (ECRs) who are members of the society. The aim of the program is to support ECRs to undertake original projects focusing on diatoms, across all disciplines. The program will provide funding opportunities to facilitate collaboration and networking. We anticipate that a call for applications will be made each year for the next three years (2023-2025). There are two types of ECR funding opportunities:
Type I: ECR Starter Grant – Luc Ector Bursary. This grant is named in memory of Luc Ector who, as well as being a prominent and prolific diatomist, was also known for his generosity and concern for young diatomists.
- Individual grants
- Main aim: to enable students to do something in their research that would otherwise be very difficult or impossible
- Each year: 3 awards worth £2,000 each.
Type II: ECR Networking Grant
- Funding for a collaborative project, which involves a minimum 3 ECRs
- Main aim: to promote collaboration and multidisciplinary research among ECRs
- Each year: 1 award worth £4,000.
Who can apply:
Early Career Researchers who are paid up members of ISDR. We define ECRs as:
- Members currently registered on an MSc programme, or
- Members currently registered on a PhD programme, or
- Researcher members who are within 8 years of the award of their PhD or MSc (extensions to this 8-year timeframe are permitted for periods of leave, including maternity, parental and sick leave).
